Found on the new Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Rallye Edition, the Pinion Smart.Shift electronic gearbox will change the way you think about your daily commute and off road biking.

Pinion Smart.Shift combines the reliable and almost maintenance-free gearbox shifting technology with the advantages of push-button electric shifting.

Shifting is done at the touch of a button – quickly, ergonomically, and intuitively. The system shifts while riding, while stationary, and while under load.

Modelled On Automotive Technology

In Pinion electric bike gearboxes, power is transmitted through only two sets of cogs. This results in consistently high efficiency, minimal noise and a direct, lossless feeling at the pedals.

The redundant gears and increased chain wear of other drivetrains simply do not apply to Pinion gearboxes.

You can shift through full range gears all at once, shift part-way, or one at a time – while stationary or while riding.

Shift Gears Faster Than the Blink Of An Eye

At the planetary gear, the rotary motion at the shift lever is transmitted directly to the camshaft in the gearbox.

This controls the pawls.

A rotation of the camshaft actuates the next shift pawl and engages a new gear.

Connectivity and App

The Smart.Shift system can be connected to the Pinion Smart.Shift app.

This allows the shifting behavior and shift button assignment to be customized. Functions such as Start.Select and 

Pre.Select can be optionally activated and set in the app.

Information on e-bike battery charge status, software updates and a service tool are available at a glance.

Great helmet with excellent comfort and premium build quality. I also like that you can add accessories like a visor or winter ear pads. The biggest advantage of the Mercedes-Benz x Unit 1 edition is that it connects directly to the Mercedes eBike via Bluetooth and integrates with the bike's system. If you own a Mercedes eBike, this is definitely the version to get.

I have only taken the Bike out twice for a total of 45 miles. So far, the helmet and bike interface as one perfectly. The bike is agile, responsive and balanced and very fast, great acceleration. The four pistons caliber and large disc give superb stopping power. I haven't been able to take it off road because I have no fenders. This is a concern, why didn't the fenders get installed beforehand? Does the rear tire have to be dis-mounted to install the rear fender? V/R LRB
